Cyrilla Mozenter
In the failed utopian & Other Stories Cyrilla Mozenter exhibits two and three-dimensional pieces of hand stitched industrial wool felt and works on and with paper. Using deceptively simple, pictogram-like images along with letters and words, Mozenter has invented her own language. The work is in the tradition of iconic images. Cycladic idols, medieval tapestries, Fra Angelico's frescos, African divination figures, and Aboriginal cave painting are points of reference. The involvement, however, is not with a standardized symbolic system. Through an immersion in an intuitive and improvisational process, a personal symbolism, which has reverberations beyond the self is discovered and revealed.

About the Artist
Cyrilla Mozenter is a New York artist working in drawing and sculpture. Solo exhibitions include the failed utopian at Lesley Heller Workspace (NY), warm snow: Sculpture in Two and Three-Dimensions at Garrison Art Center (Garrison, NY), warm snow at Adam Baumgold Gallery (NY), More saints seen at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum (Ridgefield, CT), Cuts and Occasionsat Dieu Donné Papermill (NY), Very well saint at The Drawing Center (NY), Undercurrent at Espaço Cultural Municipal Sérgio Porto (Rio de Janeiro), and Secret Ears at BAM (Brooklyn). She has been in residence at Dieu Donné Papermill, the Kohler Arts Center (Sheboygan, WI), and Instituto Municipal de Arte e Cultural-Rioarte (Rio de Janeiro). She has received two fellowships from NYFA and two project grants from The Fifth Floor Foundation. Her work is in numerous public collections including the Brooklyn Museum and the Yale University Art Gallery. She taught in the MFA program at Pratt Institute.

Take 2, 3, or 4 trains to Franklin Avenue. Walk two blocks against the traffic on Franklin. Walk ¾ block to 558 St. Johns Place. FiveMyles is within easy walking distance from the Brooklyn Museum.
